Label Printing: The Advantages of Going Digital
Large label printing companies use flexographic printing equipment, which has long been the standard in the printing industry. However, flexo-printing is only economical for large label printing runs of more than 50,000 labels. That’s a disadvantage if you run a smaller business, forcing you to order more labels than what you need.
All Kinds of Advantages
Digital label printing combines digital printers, software, and computer databases to create high quality labels and stickers comparable in look and feel to standard offset printing. It’s ideal for quick, low-cost print runs. At Leapin’ Lizard, we can print a run of quality labels on our Epson Stylus Pro digital press in a day, where runs on conventional flexo presses may take several weeks. With a digital label printing platform, there’s no set up time, which helps us to provide a 3 to 5-day turn-around in most cases.
Digital label printing doesn’t require large runs to be economical, either. That means you only have to print what you need, eliminating waste and the need for storage space while still getting a great value for quality black-and-white or beautifully colored label printing. All of this helps lead to better inventory control and improved cash flow.
Our overhead to operate our digital label printing press is lower than conventional presses, which also helps to keep our label printing costs down. Our process doesn’t require plates, and custom shape cuts are made on the fly without expensive dies.
Customize and Personalize
Another huge advantage of using digital for label printing is the ability to use variable data. This means every label in your run can include different information, such as barcoding, sequential numbering, customer names, product information (print labels for multiple products in the same run!), and more. This adds a new degree of flexibility to label printing that’s available only with digital printing.
Environmentally Friendly
And digital label printing is more environmentally friendly than traditional printing methods. Digital label printing doesn’t require films, plates, or chemicals that standard presses need; our presses use water-based inks; and generate little to no paper waste that you get with the multiple test runs required on a traditional presses. We even take it one step further by using electricity generated from wind, and we’re working to add solar energy to our power mix as well, eventually using it for 100% of our power needs. We like to be able to help businesses like yours succeed through quality label printing and still be easy on the environment.
