Label Printing – Using Variable Data on Labels

With the digital label printing process used by Leapin’ Lizard Labels, we have the ability to print labels using variable data, or variable information, printing. This is a form of on-demand printing you can’t get from label printing on a standard flexographic printing press. Elements of your label design, such as graphics, pictures, and text, may be changed from one label to the next using information from a database or external file without slowing down the label printing process.

Digital label printing makes customization easy. Instead of having to run 50,000 labels for your lot of 1,000 products to maximize the economies of standard flexographic label printing, you can run 500, then run 500 more with a seasonal message at a much lower cost without having to worry about where you are going to store 49,000 labels.

You can also easily customize your label printing with text, logos, and more to match the retail outlets in which you sell your product. This process is perfect for manufacturers that create private label products for resellers or mass customize products via label printing for their end customers. You can also regionalize your products by tying the image on the label to the area in which the product is being sold. Products going to the Rocky Mountain region might have mountain imagery on the labels whereas products going to the Midwest might have rural, farmland scenes.

To create versioned labels, the label printing process begins with a basic design that indicates which sections can be altered, combined with a database that fills in the information in the changeable fields. The possibilities of the customization process are endless.
